WELCOME

Welcome to the Faith to Engage EM website originally established by East Midland Churches Forum.

The East Midlands Churches' Forum was established in 1998 at the request of Church Leaders in the Region and in response to an initiative of Churches Together in England (CTE). Its primary purpose, to support the Churches' representation to Governmental bodies across the region including local authorities, councils, regional bodies and agencies such as Health, Equalities, Education and Planning, was pursued energetically for the 13 years of Regional Government.

In June 2011 the Forum was wound up following the government's decision to dismantle regional government and the subsequent decline of most regional infrastructure and Our Final Report can be viewed or downloaded from the Annual Reports page on this site.

HOWEVER there is of course, no less to do in the area of public and social engagement by all faith communities and my task over the next few months as the Partner in this region for Faith to Engage is to seek to support and encourage all that is, or could be happening.

In addition to the high commitment flowing from our various faiths, and individual worship centres, we are assured that faith groups continue to be invited by government at every level to play a full part in their communities.  The work of Faith to Engage continues in the region and this site and our data bases will be maintained to assist that work. Please do follow the links to see the sort of thing that can be done by local groups and churches and seek our help in anything you are trying to do in your area.

Through the various pages and links on this site we hope you:

October Update

October Update

Many thanks to all those of you who have sent in comments, address updates, messages of encouragement and feedback following the publication of the September News, Final EMCF Report and plans for the future of FaithToEngage in your area.  Please do use it (or lose it!) as your network for encouraging action.  I hope this month’s round up exemplifies the vitality of the Faith Sector in responding to the challenges our nation faces.

If you did miss the important information and links in last month’s letter please click here

Please do let me know of your events, activities hopes, and successes to strengthen the reputation of faith as a force for good in our society and to encourage one another.  Full communication details are in the footer below and the old via the continuing emcfadmin@btconnect.com.

So what’s the Buzz:

If there is anything I can do to assist I will make every effort to do so and do know that there is real support available from many of you to do what we can in these more difficult circumstances.  Our success will depend on our faithfulness and deep concern for all amongst whom we live.  Do let me know if any links are missing or lead you astray.  News of the New National FaithtoEngage Web-Site will follow next month

Finally if you know of or anyone in your own organisation or elsewhere who might value these updates please do let me have name, address, organisation and relevant info and an e-mail and I will happily extend our circulation.  We would particularly value links into the voluntary and public sectors where further integration would assist all our endeavours.

Yours faithfully

Derek Markie

EMCF Archive - Prior to June 2011

This page relates to the Forum which was wound up in June 2011 - Please see Welcome Page

Membership of the Forum comprises of Church Leaders in the East Midlands and nominate representatives and specialists. All Christians who are actively involved in church or social leadership or have a particular area of relevant expertise are invited to attend.

A starting point for our work is a paper on Theological Principles further enhanced by one on Subsidiarity.

From this starting point we have sought to engage with a rapidly expanding portfolio of Policy development across the East Midlands.

We aim to co-ordinate the Churches' response to shared issues.

We aim to encourage as many as are able to engage with these political processes which are shaping our society in an increasingly devolved English, United Kingdom and European context and in a rapidly changing world.

We aim to concentrate on those matters which will best serve our society and harness its vision for sustainable development, economic progress, social inclusivity, environmental impact, and planning.
