EM Assembly's Successor Announced
Council leaders from across the region are to serve on an East Midlands Local Authority Leaders' Board next year. The Leaders' Board will replace the Assembly by the end of March 2010.
The Board will be:
- able to make strategic, long-term decisions and able to engage effectively with the regional development agency, emda
- representative of councils across the whole of the region
- made up of council leaders, with sufficient authority to act on behalf of all councils in the region
Its members will be senior councilors from each of the region's unitaries or county authorities plus 5 District Council reps.
It is proposed that the first meeting of the shadow Leaders' Board will take place next month (March 2009), to discuss regional governance and wider working arrangements.
EMRA is being replaced as part of the Government's sub-national review.
